What to Do When You Experience Decision Fatigue As a Leader | Linda Yates

Feeling exhausted or burned out? You might be suffering from decision fatigue. In this episode of the Int-HER-rupt podcast, your host Linda Yates sheds some light on this topic so that we can recognize our decision fatigue and make adjustments to the aspects of our lives that caused it. This leaves us happier, healthier, and more free to achieve our goals!

What Is Decision Fatigue?
Feeling drained after having to make too many decisions, diverting your mental resources away from creativity and innovation
Some common symptoms: procrastination, impulsivity, avoidance, indecisiveness

How to Avoid Decision Fatigue
Streamline your choices by creating lists/writing them down
Set yourself up for success by preparing things in advance
Cut things out, trimming activities that drain you out of your schedule
Delegate any workplace decisions you can, which shows your team how much you trust them
Make big decisions in the morning when you’re fresh and have lots of energy
Once you’ve made your decision, don’t second-guess yourself
Work positive habits into your daily routine

If Your Staff Ask You to Make a Decision, Ask Yourself…
Does this decision need to be made by me?
Does it need to be decided right now?
If I don’t need to make this decision, who should?

“These three words are really helpful in decision fatigue, especially as a leader: delete, delay, delegate.” – Linda Yates
