Do you experience “chronic, unmanaged stress”? Then you might be suffering from burnout. In this episode of the Int-HER-Rupt podcast, your host Linda Yates and Ebony Joyce (the Career Clarity Coach) talk about how to recognize burnout, how to heal when you’re past the point of exhaustion, and even how to prevent burnout from occurring in the first place!
Signs You May Be Burned Out
Your productivity is decreasing
You feel stressed when you think about going in to work
You’re disconnecting from other people at work
3 Tips for Getting Ahead of Burnout
Set boundaries. Know what burns YOU out – for Ebony, decision fatigue is a big challenge. Meal prepping and wardrobe downsizing have limited the decisions she has to make while she’s at home recharging.
Learn to say “no.” This can be challenging if you’re used to putting others before yourself, but if you develop a strong sense of self, it will get easier!
Manage your time. Prioritize what you need to do and set aside time to relax when everything is done.
How to Heal Your Burnout
Exercise, unplugging from your phone/computer, spending time in nature, and spending time with loved ones can all heal burnout.
Get to the source of why the burnout is happening and figure out what kind of support you need. This may mean speaking to leadership at your work, and if they are not willing to work with you, it may be time to start looking for a new job.
“We live in a culture where being overworked and burned out has been glorified, to some extent. You don’t get a gold medal because you worked hard and overextended yourself.” – Ebony Joyce
